On the fourth episode of her Power Women series, Schneps Media President and Publisher Victoria Schneps interviews Margarycel Nunez, the Owner of Sunny Skies Preschool.
During her interview, Nunez discusses growing up poor in the Dominican Republic and Borough Park Brooklyn, being the mother of a special needs child and spending her life devoted to helping special needs children.
Sunny Skies Preschool has locations in Sunset Park Brooklyn, Borough Park Brooklyn, Prospect Heights Brooklyn. They provide families with a program that fulfills the educational, emotional and social needs of children ages 2-5 in a fun, loving and safe environment.
Nunez has 20 years of experience working with children after getting her Master’s Degree in teaching. She is a self-taught grant writer and government vendor and worked with Mayor Bloomberg to help develop Early Learn NYC, which revolutionized the childcare industry in the Big Apple.
She found her passion when working with a child who had down syndrome and eventually becoming the parent of a child with down syndrome, including teaching a class of young girls to specialize in early childhood education.
“There’s nothing more fulfilling to me than creating something that one day my son might be able to benefit,” she says.
She also does pro-bono work for families who need an IEP/Disability advocate. She wants to keep economic status from coming between a child and the services they need to thrive.
Nunez discusses her next steps, which includes potentially expanding her work to the Dominican community in Boston. She knows that she’ll have the determination going forward to help children, help her community and achieve her goals.
“I will never give up, that’s just me.”
