In this week’s episode of the Gay City News podcast “Thank You For Coming Out,” creator and host Dubbs Weinblatt (they/ them/ theirs) welcomes Jerome Haferd (he/him/his) and David Blasher (he/him/his). Jerome Haferd is an architect and design educator based out of Harlem, NYC. His interests in the field include how architecture establishes a dialogue with marginalized users and spaces. He is the co-founder of the architectural design practice BRANDT : HAFERD, also located in Harlem and focusing on a range of research and built projects both in and outside of New York. When he is not doing architecture related activities, Jerome enjoys travel, the arts, and activism. His heroes are his mother, Laura, twin brother Robert (Roman), and partner David.
David Blasher grew up in Eugene, Oregon, eldest of four ambiguously brown, Jew(ish), fun-loving brothers. He studied theater at Yale and plays cello whenever he can, including with the hipster rock pop band, Sky-Pony. During the day he is the Director of Global Legal Operations & Innovation at NBCUniversal; and he also serves as Board Chair for the non-profit Drama Club, which provides theater and improv programming to court-involved children in NYC. One of his favorite mantras is “share who you are.”
As queer people, we are constantly coming out, and each coming out story is unique in its blend of humor, heartache, worry, and wonder. “Thank You For Coming Out,” inspired by Dubbs’ beloved live comedy show of the same name, pairs them as host with lesbian, gay, trans, bi, non-binary, and more members of the queer community to discuss their coming out stories.
Listen in to our 17th incredible journey into the LGBTQ communities’ vulnerable and often hilarious stories of coming out.
Presented by Gay City News, “Thank You For Coming Out” is one of the podcast offerings of Schneps Broadcasting, which also includes “Power Women” hosted by Schneps Media president and publisher Victoria Schneps-Yunis, “Brooklyn Paper Radio” hosted by editor Zach Gewelb, and “El Correo Radio” hosted by editor Karmina Fonseca.
