This week, we’re revisiting one of our favorite episodes, our season two premiere with special guest, Shakina (she/her)! You can catch her new show, “Connecting,” premiering tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern on NBC.
Thank You For Coming Out” kicked off its second season with a live celebration Saturday Jan. 25 at Caveat on the Lower East Side. Featuring an intimate chat with actress Shakina, best known for her work on “Difficult People” and “Transparent ‘Musicale Finale,’” the evening was its own musical event with several performances from the show’s past guests.
Host Dubbs Weinblatt (they/ them) and Shakina dove into Shakina’s coming out, her early work as a performance artist, and her experience working on “Transparent” over the course of a 40-minute candid — and, let’s just say it, at times hilarious — conversation.
In addition to the live interview, several previous podcast guests presented original music, including a live performance of the show’s theme, a comedic ode to the risks of hook-up apps by comedian Jay Malsky (they/ them), and a romantic duet between “Orange Is the New Black” actors Emily Tarver (she/ her) and Vicci Martinez (she/ her).
As queer people, we are constantly coming out, and each coming out story is unique in its blend of humor, heartache, worry, and wonder. “Thank You For Coming Out,” inspired by Dubbs’ beloved live comedy show of the same name, pairs them as host with lesbian, gay, trans, bi, non-binary, and more members of the queer community to discuss their coming out stories.
Presented by Gay City News, “Thank You For Coming Out” is one of the podcast offerings of Schneps Broadcasting, which also includes “Power Women” hosted by Schneps Media president and publisher Victoria Schneps-Yunis, “Brooklyn Paper Radio” hosted by editor Zach Gewelb, and “El Correo Radio” hosted by editor Karmina Fonseca.
